One of the overarching themes of the Bible is that we worship and serve a God who wants very badly to set us free from the internal and external forces that enslave us. Thus the story of the Exodus, which informs the whole of the Old Testament, is retold by Matthew in his account of how God came to liberate the world through a second Moses figure, Jesus Christ.
This fall, Pastor Elizabeth will be offering The God Who Liberates which will lead participants through an exploration of the key stories (but not every chapter) in Exodus and Matthew. Through lecture and conversation, participants will learn many of the major themes in these important biblical texts, and consider what they mean for us today. Participants will be asked to read several chapters of biblical text a week in anticipation of class, and for those who are not available to participate during that time, the class will be recorded and posted to Facebook and the church’s website so that you can watch at your convenience.
This 11-week class will be offered virtually via Zoom on Tuesday mornings from 9:30 – 11:00 am.
September 15 through November 24, 2020
All are welcome! The class is open to teens and adults, members and non-members, Bible study novices and experts, and everyone in between!
Please register by Monday, September 14.
To register, email the church at firstname.lastname@example.org, or call 410-721-2313.
Missed Pastor Elizabeth's "The God Who Liberates" class this morning? Here is the class video. Unfortunately the recording of the first class did not work, but the handout conveys what was discussed and can be found at http://popchurch.org/event-items/beginning-september-15-2020-the-god-who-liberates-class/.
